Onkalo is a deep geological repository for nuclear waste located in Finland, designed for the safe storage of high-level radioactive waste for tens of thousands of years. It is part of a broader project aimed at minimizing the risk of radiation leakage into the environment, even in the event of extreme natural or human-made disasters. The repository is situated in layers of stable crystalline rock, which ensures its resistance to erosion, seismic activity, and other long-term geological processes.

The radioactive waste stored in Onkalo poses a risk to the health of living organisms if it were to be released into the surrounding environment. This waste contains isotopes that emit ionizing radiation capable of damaging biological tissues and causing genetic mutations. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the repository remains intact and its contents inaccessible to future generations who might unknowingly compromise its integrity.

This goal includes not only technical safeguards but also the creation of a warning system that will be understandable even to civilizations with different languages and cultures, deterring them from entering the area.

In my proposal, I take the approach of a negative experience/monument that appeals to the universal senses shared by most organisms as we know them today. Given the anticipated disruption of social continuity and thus the extinction of languages, the aim is to evoke feelings of fear and repulsion so that any potential intruders will receive the message of possible danger.
